Maintenance and Servicing Instructions for Pellet Wood Stoves
MAINTENANCE OF WOOD PELLET STOVES
Preventative maintenance is important to maintain the life of any appliance you own. The same is true with your pellet stove. Maintenance requirements can vary depending on the type and age of your stove, but there are a few things that can be done for better performance of any pellet stove.
The interval of time for each maintenance item will also vary widely depending on the fuel used. We work very hard to supply the best quality pellets available for our customers. Improper or lack of preventative maintenance will result in a poor operating stove, poor flame patterns, excessive smoke and possible stove damage.
TYPES OF PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE:
Routine:(as needed 1 to 7 days) Performed by stove-owner
- Inspect the burn grate and burn pot. Clean as needed
- Clean out the ash pan
- Clean the window (using high temp glass cleaner)
- Clean/polish the plated surfaces with a soft cloth and a mild glass cleaner
- Inspect the flame for a sharp, white/yellow flame
Periodic (as needed, every few months) Performed by stove-owner or technician
- Clean out ash traps behind ash pan
- Clean the combustion chamber floor
- Clean the hopper
- Clean/dust the area under the hopper
- Inspect and clean, as needed, the PL vent tees and exhaust vents
- Inspect and clean, as needed the combustion and convection (room air) fan blades
Seasonal (as needed 6 to 12 months)
(Most stove manufacturers recommend that this be done by a qualified pellet stove technician)
- Clear out burn grate holes
- Clean out ash traps behind ash pan
- Remove all sawdust, pellets and ash from the stove after the burning season
- Inspect and clean, as needed, the PL vent tees and exhaust vents
- Inspect and clear any obstructions from the air inlet piping
- Remove air deflector from behind burn grate and clean air wash screen
- Inspect door and ash pan gaskets
